MULTILINGUAL SUPPORT GUIDE

How to set up multilingual live chat support

Good multilingual support goes beyond translating words. Agents need context, a way to review important translations and clear ownership of the conversation.

1. Start with the conversation, not the language list

List the regions and languages your customers actually use. Choose a working language for each agent and store a language preference per visitor. Very short messages, names and mixed-language text can be ambiguous, so keep a manual override.

2. Preserve the original and protect business details

Store original messages alongside translations. Preserve URLs, order IDs and product terms using a glossary and validation rules. For quotes, delivery promises and refunds, preview translated replies before sending. Machine translation can make mistakes; a review path matters.

3. Give agents context without trusting the browser

Pass product names, order references and page sources into the chat through approved SDK fields or URL parameters. Treat browser input as unverified. Fetch payment status and account permissions from a trusted server API.

4. Use Telegram as an agent interface

Customer-to-Telegram channel integration and replying to website visitors from Telegram are different workflows. For the latter, bind a verified agent identity and map each reply to a conversation using a quote or topic. Revoke access when the seat is disabled or the conversation is transferred.

5. Give AI a bounded role

Start with reviewed FAQ and business documents. Define which tools the agent can call and require approval for consequential writes. Pause AI after a human takes over. Missing knowledge should produce a handoff rather than an invented answer.

6. Measure the experience and cost separately

Track delivery latency, translation latency, failed requests and human corrections. Meter original characters for merchant billing while tracking provider tokens internally. Put limits on context, output length and retries, and show clear low-balance alerts.
